  • 1/3 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 12 tbsp additional red food coloring
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 34 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 23 tbsp milk
  • A few drops of ivory or peach food coloring
  • Candy fangs or small dots of vegan gelatin
  • Red syrup or edible red gel
  • Straws

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a muffin tin with paper liners.
  2. Cream together the softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract and red food coloring.
  3. In a separate bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, and salt. Gradually mix into the wet ingredients alternating with buttermilk. Stir in the baking soda mixed with vinegar.
  4. Fill muffin cups about two-thirds full with batter and bake for 18-20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack.
  5. Prepare the filling by mixing red velvet cake crumbs with sweetened condensed milk and melted butter until smooth.
  6. Hollow out cooled cupcakes and fill with the creamy mixture.
  7. Make frosting by beating softened butter, powdered sugar, vanilla extract, and milk until smooth; add desired food coloring for skin tone.
  8. Frost cupcakes and decorate with candy fangs and red syrup for the bloody effect.
