  • 6 ounces mozzarella pearls (fresh)
  • 1 baguette (demi)
  • ½ cup basil pesto
  • gel food coloring (black)
  • 12 ounces cherry tomatoes
  • olive oil
  • salt
  • black pepper
  • red pepper flakes
  • fresh basil
  • balsamic vinegar glaze

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Fill a silicone skull mold with mozzarella pearls and bake for 6 to 7 minutes until just melted.
  3. Press the melted mozzarella into the molds, cool completely, then set aside.
  4. Increase oven temperature to 475°F. Halve cherry tomatoes, place cut side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet, drizzle with olive oil, and season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes. Roast for 10 to 15 minutes.
  5. Slice the baguette into ½-inch pieces and toast in the oven until lightly golden (about 8 to 10 minutes).
  6. Mix basil pesto with black food coloring to achieve desired color.
  7. Spread black pesto on toasted baguette slices and return them to the oven for another 8 to 10 minutes.
  8. Top each piece of bread with roasted tomatoes and mozzarella skulls before serving.
